Tucson Chapter President
Jeannie Nguyen
National Bank of Arizona

Membership:

We are actively pursuing several new members; however, we need your help.  One of our primary goals this year is to continue to grow and broaden our membership.  The November, 2009 issue of EWIConnect summarized the posting process and also offered a few suggestions of firm classifications that would benefit and grow our local chapter.  Here are few more to consider:

  1. Air Conditioning/Heating
  2. Cosmetic Dentistry
  3. Dry Cleaning
  1. Broadcasting
  2. Civil Engineering
  3. Manufacturing

These are just suggestions - the possibilities are really quite endless.  If you know of a firm that you think will benefit from this wonderful organization, simply email your Membership Director, Michelle Jacobsen, and she will take it from there.  As we continue to grow our membership, we can only benefit by expanding our capabilities, experience, diversity, and creativity.

Mentoring/Orientation:

We are close to rolling out the revitalization of our mentoring and orientation program.  As I indicated last September, as we increase membership, we need to ensure our newest members have a true understanding of who we are and engage them so they are excited to share in our goals and vision.  Stay tuned for more details from your Mentoring and Orientation Chair, Leona Williams.

Networking/Socializing:

We have reintroduced Kola’s Column as a way to connect our members on a personal level.  Further, last September I encouraged each of you to brush up on your 30 second elevator speech.  Keep that speech handy!  In addition, our January program, focusing on Social Media, will teach us about modern age tools and technology that can take our networking to the next level.  Our February Past Presidents dinner will allow us additional networking time with both past Presidents and past Members.  This past October, we held a firm night at La Paloma Urgent Care (Northwest Healthcare) and have an additional firm night at Horizon Moving Systems, Inc. scheduled for March.  Also, don’t forget to mark your calendars for a mini-firm night scheduled in August.

As we roll into 2010, we are off to a good start!  I am optimistic that on December 31, 2010, we will each look back in reflection and realize what great possibilities we accomplished as we entered the new decade.  Again, our possibilities are endless – we are capable – WE are EWI.

Identifying Prospective Member Firms

  1. Leading businesses that are members in another EWI Chapter and have an office in your city
  2. Your firm’s vendors
  3. Your firm’s customers/clients
  4. Business associates you meet at seminars or meetings
  5. Inquiries received by the EWI Corporate Office
  6. Watch local business journals
  7. Trade publications
  8. Newspapers for announcements of new businesses opening or relocating to your city.
  9. Chapter representative or executive identifies a prospective new firm and forwards the name of the firm and executive to the Chapter Membership Committee for processing
  10. The Chapter Membership Director then presents the firm name, executive’s name, representative’s name (if available), and the major and minor classification to the Chapter Board for approval.  This can be done at the monthly Board meeting or via fax or email.  If approved by the Chapter Board, then the firm information is posted to the Chapter Membership.

  11. Contact can be made after ten (10) days of posting if no written objections are received from an executive of a Chapter member firm. If there is an objection, a reason must accompany the objection so the Chapter Board can investigate. The Chapter Board has the authority to rule on the validty of any objections and accept or reject them.
