July Meeting Highlights

Our meeting was held at Italia Ristorante on Tanque Verde. The food and atmosphere were wonderful. Our speaker was even better. Councilman Rodney Glassman was introduced by his fiance, Sasha Borsand. Instead of reciting the Pledge of Alliegiance Rodney lead us in a chorus of America the Beautiful. Afterwhich, he passed out copies of the "Glassman Gazette" the ward 2 quarterly newsletter. He spoke about the reasons he became a councilman and on several local issues which effect all of us.

An issue very important to him is "WATER". One of Rodney's 5. I repeat 5, degrees from The University of Arizona is a PhD in Arid Land Resource Science. He talked about the need to save our potable water for drinking while at the same time, expanding the use of rainwater and gray water for non-essential uses such as landscaping. He spoke about an ordinance which he is working on that would require all new commericial building to utilize rainwater as their primary source of water for landscaping and would require that all new single family residences be plumbed for a gray water system. (For more information on what you can do to take steps to save water, or to learn more, contac katie.boldger@tucsonaz.gov ).

The main point Rodney wants everyone to realize is that he is interested in hearing feedback and concerns from all the residents of Tucson, not ust those who live in his Ward. He has pledged to de whatever he can to help with any issue. His office number is 791-4687, and his e-mail address is rodney.glassman@tucsonaz.gov

We were very pleased to have Emery Nicoletti, from Metropolis Salon, along with Dr. Scott Wert and Sasha Borsand as our guests for the evening. Emery has been a generous supporter of our fundraisers as well as supporting many other charities. It was a pleasure meeting them all.

During the meeting the proposed slate for the 2008/2009 Tucson Chapter Board of Directors was presented to the membership. It will be voted on at the August meeting.
